Whispering Pines
The Village of Whispering Pines, founded in 1959 and the
first incorporated village in North
Carolina (1969), is home to over 2000 residents and offers fantastic
residential communities with very little to no commercial development.
It's
this lack of commercial development and quiet, peaceful, lifestyle that has
been such a draw for retirees and residents of all ages. With Pinehurst and
Southern Pines only 10 minutes away, Whispering Pines is like your own
corner of paradise, just outside the hustle and bustle of shopping,
restaurants and business.
This
gorgeous little community consists of about 1300 beautiful homes
built around 3 magnificent golf courses, sequestered among eight sparkling
lakes with thousands of stately pine trees and colorful dogwood, azaleas,
and hollies. Here the rapid tempo of daily pressures has been slowed to a
casual and delightful way of living that suits the residents and visitors
just fine.
Because there are no commercial sections, this 2500 acre
community is known as a village rather than a town and is governed by an
elected council of five members.
Village services include, among other
things, 24-hour police protection, fire protection, garbage collection, road
maintenance, and lake maintenance. Because it is incorporated, it also shares North Carolina state tax
revenues which results in a very modest tax rate.
There are eight lakes here. which are
stocked with bass and bream. Gasoline
powered boats are allowed on Thagard's Lake, but are restricted from the
other lakes. The lakes are owned by the Village for use only by residents and property owners.
There are access areas into all lakes
for residents and property owners.
These beautiful lakes in Whispering Pines are surrounded by gorgeous
waterfront properties and homes that offer an incredible location to come
home to.
The Village Ordinances, which contain some of the best planning and
zoning laws in the state, ensure the care and quality of the development of
the Village, both now and in the future.
Currently, there is a moratorium in
effect on any major developments or new subdivisions. There are still plenty
of new construction homes and individual new construction projects, but the
moratorium keeps any major new development from
taking place, such as new subdivisions of 4 lots or more.
For sometime, Whispering Pines was primarily a retirement
community, but the demographics are changing. Younger families that
are drawn to the highly coveted farm life school district, have started to
account for more and more of the population.
Military families also love the area, because of the easy
commute to Fort Bragg. The quiet neighborhoods and panoramas of golf
courses, lakes and beautiful properties keep people coming back. And you can
still be in Pinehurst or Southern Pines in 10 minutes or less, depending on
where you're going.
