Talamore Golf Resort, partner club of Mid South Golf Club, has been ranked in the forefront of outstanding courses in
the Pinehurst area golf scene, which has Talamore Golf Partners hired architect Rees Jones to bring his considerable talents back to the Village of Pinehurst in order to design a course that would be visually striking and exceptionally enjoyable. The result was a 7,020 yard course that was ranked in the top five new courses in America upon its opening by Golf Digest Since receiving the designation as Best New Course in the South, Talamore Golf Resort has been consistently ranked at the forefront for outstanding courses in the Pinehurst area. This 18-hole championship course, designed by Rees Jones, was named "North Carolina Golf Course of the Year" in both 2002 & 2003, and has been honored with a four and a half star ranking by Golf Digest. This immaculate and always challenging layout designed by Rees Jones features natural elevation changes, dramatically sculpted mounding and Talamore’s famed llama caddies. This course is a true shot maker’s delight, where position is key and strategic thinking is a must. According to Rees Jones: "This is a position course. Length isn't going to
benefit the long hitter. What I'm trying to do is require thinking. I don't want
to take Talamore is a "what you see is what you get" type of golf course, in that if you can consistently strike a straight shot, you’ll more than likely play well here. There isn't any real treachery while putting, these greens are quite straightforward and offered no real surprises. Pick the correct set of tees, because you will need to get off the tee well in order to take advantage of the benign putting surfaces. Like the majority of Rees Jones’ courses, Talamore Golf Resort sports Jones’ standard sculpted and rounded off sand bunkers all over the place. The sand here is not overly difficult to play out of, but it is fairly inconsistent in texture and the quality varies from hole to hole. “Talamore is intended to capture the best of classic golf in the Village of Pinehurst area golf scene. The site has a spirit that's unmistakable: one that allowed for a remarkable diversity of features. There's a challenge in the course that's meant to add to the enjoyment of the game. After all, golf is supposed to be fun."
