A lot of the Pinehurst area golf courses, even though they've had minor redesigns over the years, still have the same characteristics that the masters of design like Donald Ross, Dan and Ellis Maples, Fazio, Nicklaus, Palmer, etc., instilled in them years ago. Golf Digest's 2008 "Best Places to Play" ranked 23 of our courses (70% of all our courses) as 4 stars or better, and several others as 3 1/2 stars! Home of the Men's 1999, 2005 and 2014 US Open. Home of the Women's 1996, 2001, 2007 and 2014 US Open. Home of many North South tournaments, US Amateurs, Qualifying tournaments and Q School. And this is just the tip of the ice berg folks. Golf is a way of life here, and has been since the community began to flourish over 100 years ago. Start with the fact that Donald Ross made Pinehurst his headquarters for 40 years, after he redesigned Pinehurst #2 in 1901, and while he designed countless ingenius golf course designs around the country. Golf has been the first priority here since 1901. Enough said. Once you've spent a little time here, you'll understand what golfers mean when they say "There's just nothing like Pinehurst". You'll hear that phrase over and over again from professionals and amateurs alike, and you'll never look at your local courses back home the same again. It's not just a pastime here; it's a way of life. When you do come to visit and you get a chance to play with a local, be careful. Your mail man might be a scratch player while your landscaper might carry a 2 handicap! If you're playing with one of the many retired or semi-retired people here, find out as much info as you can, before you wager a couple of drinks on the 19th hole. Many past PGA/LPGA professionals, teachers and quality players from the US, Scotland and England have chose to make Pinehurst their home. Maples design here, with great length and subtle terrain changes that give
it great depth. Ellis, a Donald Ross prodigy, created both east & west

Creek is a private club for members/guests and boasts 2 Tom Fazio designs
that have won major awards since they were built. Lots of movement on the

of Gene Hamm's great classics with gorgeous tree lined fairways,

good is Dan Maples? This is another must play and another favorite of
locals. With a rolling, Scotish style front nine and a up and down
wooded back nine, Dan created a masterpiece from this thoroughbred

Donald Ross original is such a rarity because it's exactly as he crafted it
in 1921. Impeccably manicured and just a bit shorter than Pine Needles, with

Donald
Ross created the first nine holes here in 1906 and the back nine was created
in 1912. Classic Ross features like selective bunkering and undulating
