Sandhills Communities function not only as individual, diverse sections of Moore County, but each also contributes a different character and feel to the Sandhills of NC. Even though each community is uniquely different, they all have a few things in common. Warm people, beautiful landscapes, welcoming "local" businesses, gorgeous real estate and controlled growth all create the perfect atmosphere for living, working and playing. The sandhills communities listed below each have their own neighborhoods and sections that make them special.

Pinehurst - Pinehurst is synonymous with golf. Called by many "The Home of American Golf", Pinehurst's roots are anchored in golf and has always been a "getaway" for the well to do. Even in the very early days, Pinehurst attracted visitors like Annie Oakley, Bing Crosby, several US Presidents, famous writers, artists, the list goes on and on. Today Pinehurst is still a getaway for many, but it's also a fantastic neighborhood among sandhills communities that offers so much more than your typical tourist locale.

Southern Pines The most dynamic small town that you'll ever see. Southern Pines provides a vibrant downtown lifestyle and gorgeous, New England, small town feel. With all the amenities, private restaurants, nightlife and growing arts scene, Southern Pines is just a great place to be for all age groups and interests. A great mix of buildings from the late 1700's to new loft style shops and condos that blend right in. The careful planning and use of space has kept this town perfect. Just outside downtown, horse country is an equine lovers heaven with beautiful horse farms and the Walthour Moss Foundation.

Whispering Pines The Village of Whispering Pines has long been coveted for it's mainly residential landscape, dotted with 8 lakes and 3 championship golf courses. It's gently rolling hills provide a perfect sanctuary to retire to, after a long day shopping, working or just playing another round. It is a quiet peaceful area that is convenient to Vass, Hwy 1, Southern Pines and Ft. Bragg. Whispering Pines is home to around 2400 residents, and still growing in popularity among sandhills communities residents.

Seven Lakes Springing from the West End community of the Sandhills, Seven Lakes really is it's own self contained community. It lies about 20 minutes west of Pinehurst with three main neighborhoods, comprised of 7 Lakes North, 7 Lakes South and 7 Lakes West. It has 2 golf courses, horse stables, country club, fitness center, pool, and of course 7 Lakes. The west side is home to the 800 acre man made Lake Auman, named for Clyde whose family owned the land for years before development. There are six other smaller Lakes on the North and South Side.

Carthage Carthage, the county seat of Moore county, has largely been an agricultural and manufacturing community since it's establishment in the late 1700's. The cozy small town feel continues here, with buildings and architecture that have been saved and preserved over the years. Carthage continues to hold not only the courthouse, but most all of the county government offices as well. Surrounded by agriculture and farm land, Carthage is a great place to look for acreage that is still quite affordable, and as we continue to grow and push outward from the center of the county, this town on the northern edge of Moore county has tons of possibilities.

Pinebluff Moving 7 or 8 miles south of Southern Pines and Just outside Aberdeen, lies the quiet residential community of Pinebluff. John T Patrick, founder of Southern Pines, decided to set his sites on this rolling pine treed acreage after successfully establishing Southern Pines. He advertised in New England newspapers and offered acreage and land to doctors and people of influence from the north, in exchange for free advertising and to jump start the economy. Here, as in Southern Pines, the New England influence is evident with streets set up in a cross pattern and named for New England states. It's very peaceful in Pinebluff, with typically bigger lots and plenty of longleaf pines.

Vass This small agricultural town that sprang up from the railroad continues to grow and serves as one of the main corridors to Spring Lake and Fort Bragg. The town of Vass, just off of the new Hwy 1 and old business US 1, is convenient to Carthage, Fort Bragg, Southern Pines and all central spots in Moore county. It is also home to the Woodlake, a fast growing community and country club, focused around one of the largest man made lakes in the state.

Cameron The Antiques Capital of the Sandhills, Cameron draws thousands Muse Brothers Store in Cameron of visitors twice a year for the Antiques Fair. For many years the Raleigh and Augusta Railroad dead ended here on it's way south, and this "railroad built" town brought entrepeneurs and optimistic business men from up and down the east coast. It's no wonder that so many pieces and treasures found their way here over the years. The Muse Brothers Store, which still stands today, used to be the largest department store between Richmond, Va. and Augusta, Ga. in the late 1800's.
