Sandhills NC - Beauty, Tradition, History and Quality of
Life
Welcome to the beautiful Sandhills area of NC. An area
steeped in history and rich in tradition. From
Pinehurst, the home of
American Golf, to Seven Lakes,
Whispering Pines,
Southern Pines and beyond,
the character of the area and quaint old town feel will keep you coming
back.
Imagine a community where beauty and serenity
abounds at every turn. Many call Pinehurst and the surrounding areas "The
Golf Capital of the US". With over 40 championship golf courses within a 15
minute radius, it's easy to see why golfers from all walks of life love this
area. Home to the men's 1999, 2005 and 2014 US Open and home to the women's
1996, 2001, 2007 and 2014 US Open, Pinehurst has drawn visitors internationally,
but as visitors continue to migrate to the Sandhills, they realize that
there's so much more to the area than just
golf. Golf is
just the beginning, as
each community
has it's own separate identity and atmosphere.
Horse Country in
Southern Pines
hosts world class equestrian breeders and trainers. Thoroughbreds from all
over the world come here to train, breed and
enjoy the preserved landscapes
and trails in horse
country. The mild year round climate and sandy soil have been a
favorite of equestrian enthusiasts for years, along with the preservation
mind set of it's caretakers through generations. With a “New England” feel to
downtown Southern Pines, you can spend days wandering through the shops and
sampling gourmet food, antiques and treasures to take home and have a ball,
enjoying the nightlife that it has to offer. The shops, "downtown
atmosphere" and vibrant nightlife will keep you busy for a couple of
days,....and nights!
Seagrove and
Cameron have visitors
from all over the U.S. who come to buy
antiques and an array of
world class
pottery. Artisans from all over the world visit in person and online to get
tips and recipes for creating the ultimate masterpiece. The master potters
that reside in Moore county are phenomenal, and it will take a day or two to
investigate all the shops on Pottery Road. The old road to the northern part
of Moore county, which was founded before the Scots settled in central Moore
County, is often referred to as Pottery Road. The rich clay soil here has
been used by master craftsman for many years to generate unbelievable beauty
and works of art. You can easily spend an entire day on this road from
Carthage/Robbins area running north to Seagrove. The
antiques festival is
held twice a year and draws visitors from all over the country. For many
years Cameron was the end of the line for the Raleigh and Augusta railroad,
and it brought many an entrepeneur and optimist to the Cameron area, along
with their treasured collectibles, from all over the east coast.
Pinehurst, and the entire sandhills area, is
THE number
1 Golf destination and a golfers dream with some 40 courses in the area
designed by Nicklaus, Rees Jones, Dan and Ellis Maples, Fazio, Gary Player,
Palmer and of course the master
Donald Ross, including the coveted Pinehurst
#2. Golf is not just a game here, it’s a way of life.
Seven Lakes and
Beacon Ridge are just 15 minutes west of Pinehurst on Hwy 211 and features a
beautiful community with 6 smaller lakes and the 1,000 acre man made Lake Auman. Three miles long and two miles wide, Lake Auman is home to great
fishing, relaxing, boating and a wide range of
luxury waterfront homes.
Seven Lakes is comprised of three separate, gated
communities with, as you guessed it, 7 lakes, two golf courses, stables,
club, fitness center and much more.
Started as one
man's vision to create a community where every amenity needed was all
within the community itself, Seven Lakes has grown rapidly over the years.
The communities of
Whispering Pines and
Carthage are scenic,
pleasant, residential areas where one can play golf or just enjoy the scenic
lake and listen to the wind whispering through the pines. Whispering Pines features two semi-private
golf courses and six lakes surrounded by
residences. Carthage, with some 1,500 residents, is also the county seat for
Moore County. The communities are made up primarily of
single-family homes,
horse properties and
resort condominiums.
From the "pottery country" of Robbins
and Seagrove, where some of the most accomplished potters have been crafting
treasured pieces for generations, to the world renowned
horse country of
Southern Pines, the Sandhills has something for everyone.
