Beth Hammer

by Beth Hammer
(Greensboro, NC)

My Great Grandfather was JB Von Cannon founder of Sandhills Furniture factory - My grandmother was Ethel Davis a resident of the home JB bought in West End in 1903. She was born to JB and Amanda Tysinger in 1898. The house still sits in West End, just over the RR tracks from the factory. JB VonCannon built the West End United Methodist church having become a Christian when a Methodist Circuit preacher came to town.

sandhills furniture company
by: Angela Sellers @ Angie's Unique Windows Etc.

I have a complete twin bedroom suite made in 1953 by your father's company. The design is great! The person that purchased it from the company had painted it an ungodly brown. I have since painted it a beautiful aqua blue and added gray to it also distressed it and put antique black hinge looking pulls on it. Absolutely beautiful is the word for it and would be great in a beach setting. It is for sale in my Cameron NC shop.

Von Canon House
by: Larry

Web Master Scott. Taking a picture will be difficult. You won't be able to drive by the old Von Canon House and see it from Knox Road. It is a shame, but it is now obscured by trees, wysteria and brush. Perhaps Beth has a picture of the house in its prime. I would love to see it.

Sandhills Furniture Company History
by: Webmaster Scott

That's fantastic Beth. When they closed the doors on Stanley Furniture a couple of years ago, I thought about the old Sandhills Furniture Company. I am going to go by tomorrow and take a picture of the home for our guests and visitors here on Sandhills NC.com, and I'll send you a copy or you can copy it straight from this page. Family ties and great memories are another fantastic facet of the Sandhills area.
